At Pawfect Match Rescue we believe that ALL dogs deserve a second chance regardless of their breed or age. We take a different approach to rescue. By that we mean that we take them into our homes where they live amongst us and our pets and are treated as one of the family, not as a foster dog. We accomplish this by limiting our fosters to one or two per household.   pawfectmatch@gmail.com  Website http://www.pawfectmatch.org/info/

                                      Charlies' Angels' Adoption Day

Charlie's Angels Animal Rescue
5526 Hendersonville Road      Fletcher, NC 28732

Come out and meet your new best friend(s). We have some loving animals waiting for their forever homes. Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue began as commitment to rescue animals from the high-kill animal shelter in Transylvania County. In 2008 records show that 71% of the animals brought to the Transylvania County animal shelter were euthanized. By 2009, 80% were being saved thanks in large part to the efforts of the CAAR volunteers. It is only getting better every year!

What began as a small group of volunteers has evolved into one of the leading animal rescue groups in western North Carolina and now rescues adoptable animals in Transylvania, Henderson, and Buncombe Counties. Since it's inception in 2009 CAAR has saved nearly 1,100 animals from certain death and has established networks with other rescue groups throughout the eastern US. Monday/Wednesday/Friday            11:00 am - 4:00 pm.

While there are many excellent non-profit groups in our community that rescue and re-home dogs and cats, they lack the funds and facilities to treat and injured or ill pet until it is well enough to be placed up for adoption. That is why Atlantic Animal Hospital established the Coastal Animal Rescue Effort apart from other rescue organizations. The mission of C.A.R.E. is to treat these needy animals, restore their health, find them loving new homes. http://www.carewilmington.org/index.html

Helping Paws International is a therapy and assistance animal training & certification organization headquartered in Raleigh, NC.  Helping Paws has partnered with NC Schools since 2002 to use our highly trained and certified therapy dog teams to assist children (including autistics) with their reading & learning difficulties, and/or communication and interpersonal skills by providing a furry B.A.R.K.S. Book Buddy© in a non-threatening, loving, fun environment.  Helping Paws also helps the children to learn the humane care and training of their own pets.

Additionally, Helping Paws trains every students and faculty member in the schools how to safe around pets at home and in public by presenting programs on how to read dog body language and what to do when approached by a strange dog.

Helping Paws’ has been able to document that children in our BARKS program finish the year reading an average of 1 to 3 grades above starting level.  One student even tested 2 grades level higher after only 8-weeks in the B.A.R.K.S. program.  B.A.R.K.S. ©/™ students also show improvement in class participation and grades; increased self-confidence and self-esteem and work better with teachers and classmates verses control groups.  Helping Paws’ B.A.R.K.S. program is also use to work with adults (especially stroke patients) experiencing learning, communication, and interpersonal problems.  Please visit our website at: www.helpingpawsintl.org

"A New Leash on Life"

“A New Leash on Life” is a program that allows minimum and medium custody state prisons to partner with local animal shelters, animal welfare agencies, and/or private non-profit agencies to train dogs in preparation for their adoption.  In turn, the inmates are given a chance to serve the community by training dogs to be well-behaved pets.

Each prison facility partners with a local partner or sponsor, a volunteer animal trainer, and local merchants or civic organizations that can support the program with needed supplies and services.
Selected dogs are placed with inmate trainers in a prison setting for eight to twelve weeks.  The inmates teach basic obedience, house training, and socialization through positive reinforcement and repetition.  Dogs are taught to walk on and off the leash and to respond to basic commands.

“A New Leash on Life” operates at these facilities.  For more information on adoption of the dogs, please contact the participating community partners.

Amazingly enough, they partner with 20 prisons!

Grandfather Mountain Nature Center

Grandfather Mountain  2050 Blowing Rock Highway   Linville, NC 28646

Wow! Glimpse a cougar in its natural mountain habitat. No need to run the other way.
Take a walk on Grandfather Mountain, and you’re likely to spot squirrels, songbirds and other forest animals. But what about the more elusive wildlife? It only takes a visit to our seven environmental habitats to see cougars (which no longer live in the wild on Grandfather Mountain), white-tailed deer, black bears, bald eagles and river otters. Observing these animals up close in their native settings, it’s easy to imagine what it would be like to come face-to-face in the wild. The Grandfather Mountain Nature Museum has more than 24 excellent exhibits designed to educate guests about the natural history of Grandfather Mountain and surrounding region. Visit all weeklong.

The principal designer of the exhibits for the Grandfather Mountain Nature Museum was Dr. Rolland Hower, former Chief of Natural History Exhibits for the Smithsonian Institution. Events are included with park admission. For more information, please call 800-468-7325 or 828-733-2013. Visit http://www.grandfather.com/

Hope for Horses
SOS... Foster Homes Needed Immediately!

Hope for Horses   584 North Turkey Creek Road       Leicester, NC 28748

Due the overwhelming request for donations of horses and the shortage of adoptive homes currently, we are in dire need of finding responsible foster homes.  We understand that not everyone is in a position to become a permanent adopter so we are looking for individuals that may be in a position financially and logistically to provide a safe and secure environment for even a short term of several months.

Hope for Horses would ask that you be willing to sign a foster care contract that clearly spells out the expectations for both parties. Safe fencing, suitable shelter, storage for feed and appropriate supervision are the main things we look for as with our adopters. If there is a possibility that you may be interested in making a difference, please contact us via email at  hopeforhorses@aol.com   Or give us a call at 828-683-0160.

~A Refuge for Abused and Neglected Horses~

970 Rabbit Skin Rd.        Waynesville, NC 28785           Phone 828-400-4940

Jim and Karen Owens moved to Waynesville NC in 2005 and fell in love with all it had to offer. They soon learned that Haywood County loved horses, too.
In 2005, Jim & Karen Owens opened up their farm for horses and goats to have a place to be until they can be adopted.  There just wasn’t room for those in need at the animal shelter! Sometimes a hoofed animal requires a little extra care and this is a place where he/she can find just that until a forever home is found.
