Meow House Adoption Event

PetSmart Apex   1031 Beaver Creek Commons Dr.    Apex, NC 27502
(919) 363-4056

Cat adoption day. Come and meet us and the kitties! Although our founders have been rescuing cats for many years, our roots truly began to grow in May of 2012. During this time, we became aware of the dire situation at Harnett County Animal Control where many animals on death row face euthanasia. Although we did not know we would turn into a rescue then, we agreed to take cats who did not find rescues or adopters before their time  was up, and attempted to find them loving homes. Each week we took the last few who would have otherwise been left behind and as our numbers grew, we made the decision to officially start a cat rescue based out of Raleigh, NC.   https://www.meowhousecatrescue.com/

Pawfect Match Rescue

Petco    172 Grand Hills Place   Holly Springs NC 27540   (919) 552-0033

At Pawfect Match Rescue we believe that ALL dogs deserve a second chance regardless of their breed or age. We take a different approach to rescue. We don’t try to save the masses; we just save ONE at a time and make them the best dog they can be by the time they find their forever homes.

By that we mean that we take them into our homes where they live amongst us and our pets and are treated as one of the family, not as a foster dog.Besides the basics of crate training and house training, we teach them basic obedience, we groom them, feed them a high quality dog food, and last but not least, we shower them with LOVE and attention that hopefully teaches them to trust again and realize that life really IS good..  Loving adoptables  http://www.pawfectmatch.org/animals/browse

Low Cost Rabies & Microchip Clinic
Hosted by Fayetteville Animal Protection Society

Fayetteville Animal Protection Society  3927 Bragg Blvd, Fayetteville, NC 28303

1 in 3 pets will become lost in their lifetime. Give your pet the best chance of getting home. Pet microchips are small, permanent identification chips that are about the size of a grain of rice. They are injected between the shoulder blades with a needle, and the process is just as quick as a vaccination. When your lost pet is taken to an animal shelter or veterinary clinic, they will scan your pet for a microchip and read its unique code. This code is stored with your pet’s profile and linked to your contact information.

One year rabies vaccines will be given to cats and dogs over 4 months of age by a Certified Rabies Vaccinator.

All dogs must be on leashes (no retractable leashes please) and all cats must be in carriers. The shelter will NOT open to the public for viewing of adoptable animals. The event will be held outside so please plan accordingly. We look forward to seeing everyone!

Horse Protection Society of North Carolina Needs You!
Horse Protection Society 2135 Miller Road     China Grove,  NC 28023

The Horse Protection Society is working to secure all the needed equipment to raise downed horses.  There are a variety of reasons why a horse will need additional help to get up.  If the right equipment is not available and the horse cannot be raised, the horse will have to be euthanized.

When veterinarians are performing surgery where the horse has to be laid down, the equipment can be used to aid the horse to get up safely as it is coming out of the anesthesia. HPS will need to organize a group of volunteers to be on call to aid veterinarians and raise downed horses.  If you are interested in joining this important life saving group, please call the sanctuary:  704-855-2978  http://www.horseprotection.org/index.html

Monty's Home  Pawsitive Partners Prison Program

Monty's Home  PO Box 821        Burgaw, NC 28425     910-259-7911

In May 2008, Monty's Home received state approval to start its Pawsitive Partners Prison Program (PPPP) the first companion dog prison training program in Southeastern North Carolina, the largest in the state.

Working closely with the administration of Pender Correctional Institution in Burgaw, NC, a dedicated team of volunteers developed a program that not only benefits rescued animals, it benefits the inmates involved in the program as well. Monty's Home trainers select five dogs from a local shelter.

After temperament evaluation, heartworm testing, spay/neuter and vaccinations, the dogs enter the PPPP.  Dogs live at the facility and specially screened inmate-trainers take them through a nine week training course. After graduation, the dogs are adopted into the community as family pets and five more shelter dogs enter the program. To see dogs available for adoption Click Here.

Hiking in Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest

Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest
: 5410 Joyce Kilmer Rd,
Robbinsville, NC 28771

As one of the most popular areas for hiking within the Cheoah Ranger District, Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest can also lay claim to being a top hiking destinations across all of southwestern NC.

Joyce Kilmer #poet #soldier, KIA in #WWI, a hero.

Veterans of the Foreign Wars asked govt for tribute to Kilmer.

This area contains an impressive remnant of virgin forest, representative of the vast Eastern forests that used to stretch from the Atlantic to the Mississippi and beyond. Exceptionally large trees of more than 100 species grow in the rich cove environment, protecting the headwaters of the rushing stream as it heads toward the blue-green depths of Santeetlah Lake.

Heartworm Awareness -Mosquitoes are bad this year.
Please Use a Preventative! Protect Your Pets!

Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal disease in pets in the United States and many other parts of the world. It is caused by foot-long worms (heartworms) that live in the heart, lungs and associated blood vessels of affected pets, causing severe lung disease, heart failure and damage to other organs in the body. Heartworm disease affects dogs, cats and ferrets, but heartworms also live in other mammal species, including wolves, coyotes, foxes, sea lions and—in rare instances—humans. Use heartworm preventative! Consider donating some preventative to your local shelter.
